Pilot 1 - Belgium

25 policymakers
25 journalists
Who this pilot targets and what it’s about

This pilot focuses on the future of our food at the EU level. In a foresight workshop, policymakers will assess what Europe’s agrifood strategy should look like in order to best respond to a variety of future climate scenarios. Through guided exercises – including the NEUROCLIMA tools – they will propose and critique policy approaches to jointly explore what Europe’s food strategy could look like.
Afterwards, journalists and content creators will review the outcomes of the policy workshop in a dedicated webinar. They will explore how the NEUROCLIMA tools can help their workflow and fact-finding efforts, again through the framing of future EU food strategies.

What is being tested in this pilot?

This pilot explores how improved access to reliable climate information can support both communication and decision-making. It focuses on the future of European food, with particular attention to social tipping points and media narratives surrounding this polarising topics. It also examines two core questions:

  • How can food strategies be assessed in a reliable and validated manner? Does the concept of social tipping points support this process?
  • How can we effectively communicate about the future of our food? Can digital tools aid in this?
How this pilot is going to work

Foresight workshop with policy officers on the future of our food

  • A one-day foresight workshop that explores various climate futures and policy strategies that will allow the EU to best respond to those futures.

Webinar with journalists and content creators to build on the results of the workshop

  • An online webinar with journalists and content creators that discuss the future of our food from a more narrative perspective. The outcomes of the policy workshop will be used as a springboard for the discussions.

The outcomes of the workshop will be shared with the Irish pilot

Surveys
and data collection

To assess the impact of the pilot, participants will complete a short survey before and after the main activities. This will help measure changes in climate awareness, engagement, and use of NEUROCLIMA tools.

All data collected will be fully anonymised and processed in line with GDPR requirements. Only limited background information will be requested (such as age range, professional role, and general location) to better understand the results.

Support provided

Training on NEUROCLIMA tools:

  • Participants receive hands-on guidance on how to use the tools to access and work with climate information.

Peer exchange and collaboration

  • The organisers will facilitate open discussions amongst i) multidisciplinary policy officers and ii) journalists and content creators from differing cultural contexts. Participants are encouraged to be open and proactive during the sessions.
