From 2 to 6 March 2026, the Verimpact team participated in the third edition of the European Ocean Days in Brussels, a key event bringing together policymakers, scientists, entrepreneurs, investors, and civil society committed to protecting and sustainably using the ocean. Inspired by the European Ocean Pact, the week created a dynamic space for dialogue across sectors, helping shape Europe’s response to the growing challenges facing our seas.

One of the main highlights was the launch of OceanEye by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. This new initiative aims to strengthen Europe’s capacity to observe the ocean by collecting critical data on its condition. By improving knowledge of marine ecosystems, OceanEye is expected to play a central role in advancing climate action and supporting evidence-based decision-making.

Another important moment was BlueInvest Day, funded by EMFAF, which connected innovative ocean-based companies with investors. The event showcased cutting-edge solutions and provided entrepreneurs with visibility, access to funding, and valuable networking opportunities to scale their impact within the sustainable blue economy.

On 5 March, the 4th Annual Mission Ocean and Waters Forum took place at the Charlemagne Building in Brussels, marking an important milestone as the Mission enters its deployment phase. The programme highlighted the Mission’s progress to date, presented innovative solutions developed through funded projects, and introduced the Digital Twin of the Ocean. Discussions also emphasised the importance of citizen engagement in achieving the Mission’s ambitious objectives. An exhibition space further showcased project results and featured digital posters presenting Mission Charter initiatives.

During the week, the Oceano Azul Foundation and Europe Jacques Delors hosted a high-level reception focused on the transformative potential of the European Ocean Pact. The event also marked the official launch of their joint paper, “Building an Ocean Union: Blueprint for a Transformative Ocean Act.”

Among the participants were members of the Verimpact team, alongside its Chairman, Spyros Kouvelis, who is also a Board Member of the Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters” and co-author of the Manifesto for a European Ocean Pact.

The message was clear: the ocean is not only an environmental priority, but it is also a strategic one for Europe’s future and resilience. The Ocean Act must turn ambition into action, supporting healthy oceans, thriving communities, and sustainable prosperity across Europe.
