Pilot 2 - Cyprus
This pilot in Cyprus will involve students from different educational levels, including primary and secondary school students, as well as youth workers and citizens, with the support of teachers and coordinators. The aim of the pilot program is to enhance climate literacy and awareness, while encouraging behavioral changes in climate-related issues. By combining educational rigor with creative expression, we invite participants to explore the pressing environmental issues facing our region.
The school program is designed for primary and secondary education students, who will participate in a series of experiential activities supported by dedicated teachers and coordinators. Through interactive and creative workshops, students will delve into critical issues concerning Cyprus, such as food systems, environmental sustainability, and local challenges of drought and wildfires. Through the creation of original stories, personal reflections, and visual material, young participants learn to navigate contemporary environmental challenges, while simultaneously envisioning innovative solutions for tomorrow.
Alongside the school programs, youth workers and citizens will be engaged in a collective reflection and active participation exercise.
Overall, the pilot program combines educational and creative approaches to support participants in understanding climate challenges and expressing their views in an accessible and engaging way. No prior knowledge of climate-related issues is required from the participants.
Teachers, primary and secondary school students, youth workers, and citizens
The core learning themes focus on climate change adaptation and awareness. The aim of the pilot program is to engage students, teachers, youth workers, and citizens in processes of reflection and behavioral adaptation regarding climate-related issues.
A hybrid learning model will be implemented, combining digital tools with in-person (analog) activities.
For students
A competition will be organized in which students will be invited to create artistic works (photography, creative writing, and video) with the aim of discussing and reflecting on climate-related issues. During these activities, students will be expected to reflect and engage with the proposed themes, use creative tools to express their feelings and opinions, and capture what they have learned about each topic. The NEUROCLIMA Play tool will be used to introduce the theme of the activities and serve as a source of inspiration for the students.
For youth workers and citizens:
Different social groups will be targeted and engaged to participate in activities inspired by or adapted from the creative toolkit.
Students will participate as a class, under the supervision of a teacher. Before the activities begin, an initial questionnaire (pre-survey) will be completed by each teacher in collaboration with the students. Throughout the program, teachers will also fill out observation diaries, recording the students’ behavior, participation, and reactions to the activities. At the end of the program, each class and teacher will complete a final questionnaire (post-survey). To ensure anonymity, students will respond collectively, with teachers being responsible for gathering the feedback and filling out the questionnaire on their behalf.
The remaining citizens participating in Pilot Program 2—including youth workers, children, and the elderly—will complete an initial questionnaire (pre-survey) before the activity and a final questionnaire (post-survey) after its completion.
To enable data comparison over time, each participant will create a unique code, and no personally identifiable data will be collected.
For participants in reflection sessions based on film screenings, observation diaries will be filled out by the STANDOutEDU team to record participation and reactions during the activities.
All data collection procedures will comply with GDPR requirements, ensuring anonymity and secure data management.
STANDOutEDU will guide and train the supervisors (teachers and youth workers), while providing support to participants in using the NEUROCLIMA tools. In addition, artists (e.g., photographers, poets, etc.) will participate in the activities, offering guidance and support based on their expertise, with the aim of enhancing the creative process.
